Know Where You’re Going

We have previously discussed the Five Principles for Success and one of those key points was to Know Your Outcome.

Knowing what you want is what it’s all about.  If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you have arrived?

Recently I was talking with a young man and asked him where he saw himself in five years’ time and he told me he didn’t know, he just went with the flow.  On reflection I think there are many people who don’t know where they are going and how live for the moment.

That’s great if that’s what you want but what if there’s more – more to life, more to living, more to experience, more to love, more to have, more to fulfil you, more to give you purpose in life, more to really make life a wonderful experience.  Is more living, more loving, more fun, more fulfilment and a greater sense of worth something that would be of value to you?

You may be asking yourself – so what is success, what is “more”, what is “knowing what you want” all about really?

One of the prime directives of the Unconscious Mind is that it is programmed to continually seek more and more.  Let me ask you – are you always satisfied with only one helping when you go to a smorgasbord or are you the person who goes back for more?  Once you’ve experienced the excitement of travel, are you happy with one experience or are you thinking about your next experience, where could you go next time?  There is always more to discover.

“More” is about goal setting.  After all how will you know you have “more” unless you measure your progress?   This means knowing what it will look like when you get where you want to be.  The gap is where the challenge is, where the rewards are and where a coach can help you.

Your next question might be – well what is in it for me, what will lure me into this web, what will drive me forward?  When you what you want, do you have a picture?  What does it look like, specifically?  Paint that picture in your mind and really, really see the colours, the shapes, the people involved and really put yourself right in the experience.

Now you’re right there, is this picture panoramic, what sounds can you hear, what are people saying to you?  Are they congratulating you for your effort and success?  What are you saying to yourself?  What are you feeling – a sense of achievement, a sense of exhilaration, a sense of fulfilment?  Are you flushed with success, do you feel like you’re on a “high” like you could slay dragons?  What can you smell and taste – success?  What does success taste like to you?

Well now you know what you want, how do you go about it?  How?
