Today I would like to talk about Language – the way we speak our world, we create our world.

What do you think of when you hear the word – language?  What immediately pops into your head?

There used to be a column in the paper headed Mind Your Language where the author took people (and specifically journalists) to task about the use of apostrophes and getting the spelling correct. What message are you wanting to relay?

Can you remember, as a child, being told to watch your language – probably after you had just been cheeky to an adult?

Then, when we were at school language was generally used with reference to a specific class, eg Latin is an ancient language.

Well what I would like to talk about today is the language we use every day. The words we use to describe something, the way we talk to ourselves and others.  After all, the way we speak our world, creates our world.

The things you constantly tell yourself does make an impact. Recently I was talking with someone who kept telling me everything was bullsh..t, everything was fake.  Now what do you think his view of the world was?  How committed do you think he was to making his life work for him?

Given that we are constantly bombarded with millions of bits of information every second of every minute of every hour of every day, and we all have filters that delete, distort and generalise that information so we can sift out what is going to make sense to us, what will serve us – and language is one of those filters – do you think it would be smart to have that filter working for you or against you?

This is something which is totally within your control. You only have to decide what you want.

How much energy is required to struggle and fight against what life dishes up to us every day? How do you feel when you have a deluge of negativity pouring over you all the time?

And now I wonder how it would feel if you only ever saw the glass half full, you chose to see the bright side of life, you used words that reflected that, do you think you would see the world differently?

I feel so much lighter and brighter even thinking about the last paragraph (as opposed to the previous one) as I’m sitting here writing this article.

So, how can you make this work in your world?  After all, you get what you focus on.  You get what you expect – not what you want.

What are you telling yourself every day?  What are you telling your kids and those other people in your life?  A good leader leads by example and I wonder –

What would happen if you chose to shower yourself with compliments and positive language every day

What would not happen if you chose to shower yourself with compliments and positive language every day

What would happen if you chose to not shower yourself with compliments and positive language every day, and

What would not happen if you chose to not shower yourself with compliments and positive language every day?
